This series explores the beauty, tenderness and "iyanga" — swagger — of Black men, which such characteristics are often not portrayed through the media. My intention was to lens Alex in a way that was gentle yet compelling. Inspiration for this shoot includes advertising campaigns for Loewe and Calvin Klein as well as studio portraits of Naomi Campbell by Nick Knight and Shalom Harlow by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.
"A Show of Hands" is a composition showcasing tattoo art and jewelry within Black hip hop culture as a high art in a beautiful and tender way.
“In Flight” is a series of two silhouettes inspired by Nick Knight's silhouettes of Naomi Campbell for Yohji Yamamoto Autumn/Winter 1987/8 collection advertisements. As a student of photography, I enjoy diving into history and seeing what established movers and shakers have created before me, so that I may be both inspired and informed when it comes to my practice.
